Car theft suspect makes appearance in La Crosse County court

A 29-year-old Sparta man, accused of driving a stolen car and fleeing from police in the Onalaska area, was arrested Saturday.

The ordeal began when police spotted a car bearing a plate from a different vehicle in the Onalaska Walmart parking lot.

When a man got in the car and started to leave, police began to follow, and the vehicle sped up.

Officers later located the car parked in the Elmwood Addition, and found Michael Sundberg running in the area.

Sundberg faces three criminal charges, including car theft and possessing drug paraphernalia, which was found in the car.

He was given a signature bond in La Crosse County court on Thursday, and has another hearing on Jan. 4.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area.
