A driver from Blair is now facing eight charges, including homicide, for a recent fatal SUV crash near Onalaska.

Savannah Myers appeared before a La Crosse County judge on Thursday, without an attorney. She’s scheduled to return to court on February 1st.

Police say Myers was driving drunk on October 22nd when her car went down an embankment on North Kinney Coulee Road. Passenger Joshua Hernandez died after being thrown from the SUV. The 24-year-old Myers and two young children had to be rescued from the vehicle, and were treated for injuries.

A criminal complaint reports that Myers and Hernandez had been to a bar that night, and security videos from a grocery store visit before the accident appear to show Myers stumbling and losing her balance.

The complaint says Myers has two previous OWI convictions in La Crosse County since 2018. The new charges include driving with a prohibited alcohol concentration, with a minor child in the vehicle.
