City and county leaders in La Crosse are scheduled to meet Monday evening to possibly discuss plans for reducing homelessness in the area.

A joint city-county housing plan is on the agenda at the county administrative building.

It can be found at the bottom of the planning session agenda, called “Pathways Home – City/County Housing Plan,” and looks to take place after regular items are discussed, plus a 30-minute dinner.

Members of the La Crosse city council have been invited to the county meeting for the presentation.

Back in June, officials from the city and county had a joint meeting to talk about a unified approach on a 5-year plan to provide more housing.

The goal derived from that meeting, where about 70 people gathered inside the city council chambers, was to get homelessness down to what’s called “functional zero” — where there would be more unsheltered being put into housing than people becoming homeless.

Lacrosse has nothing. I do appreciate that the homeless are no longer welcome to sleep in Cameron Park. But shoving them across the river north of Riverside P
ark is not the answer. Now it’s really going to get cold and are there any Community Services or should I say county or city services to keep people from freezing to death. I hear words but I don’t hear the exact plan.
