La Crosse suspect arrested, after allegedly shooting flare at police vehicle

A 30-year-old La Crosse man is charged with endangering the safety of police, by allegedly sending a projectile toward a La Crosse city squad car over the weekend.

Shawn Keller faces five criminal counts, including recklessly endangering safety and felony fleeing.

Keller is accused of discharging an object Saturday night at a police car on Jackson Street. WIZM News was told that it was a flare.

The projectile hit the driver’s side window and exploded with a flash of light, while an officer was sitting in the car.

Police shared the bodycam footage on Facebook, though it is hard to see.

No one was injured, but the window and door frame of the police car were damaged, police said.

The man drove away and a warrant was issued. Monday, police conducted a search at Redwood Court in La Crosse and arrested Keller inside a house.

Police say in recent months, Keller reportedly threw ice and a brass ring at squad cars, and also spit on another police car while driving past.
