City council member Schwarz hosting public presentation, Q&A with property tax expert at 1 p.m. Tuesday
A presentation at 1 p.m. Tuesday in La Crosse could help residents better understand their property taxes.
The public is invited to Property Taxes 101, a virtual presentation and live Q&A with Karl Green, program manager for the Local Government Education Program at UW-Madison Extension.
It is hosted by La Crosse City Council member Rebecca Schwarz and supported by the city’s treasurer’s office.
Viewers can submit questions during the presentation and are encouraged to send in questions ahead of time to schwarzr@cityoflacrosse.org or 608-571-4851.
“Our annual property tax bill contains a lot of information but it doesn’t tell the whole story of how property taxes are calculated and how municipalities spend these funds, ” Schwarz said. “Viewers will learn about terms, such as mill rate, assessed value, taxing jurisdiction and more. My goal for this informative but informal session is that viewers gain a deeper understanding of the city’s budget and how property taxes are calculated using approachable, everyday language and examples.”
A recording of the presentation, along with slides, will be available after the session on the city’s website.
