Lincoln Middle School sold to developer for housing project, according to La Crosse school district
The La Crosse school district has sold Lincoln Middle School to a developer, for a housing project, at a price of $2.2 million, according to a news release on Wednesday.
The district said it has reached a sale agreement with Commonwealth Development Corporation of America, and the Wisconsin Partnership for Housing Development. The deal is expected to close in June of next year.
“This project holds immense benefits not only for the neighborhood itself but also for the school district and the broader La Crosse community,” said school superintendent Dr. Aaron Engel in the news release.
Engel joined La Crosse Talk PM that evening.

Lincoln was closed last summer, as part of a building consolidation plan, leaving Logan and Longfellow as the two remaining middle schools in the La Crosse district.
Commonwealth, a Wisconsin-based developer, reportedly plans to convert the century-old school into affordable housing, while preserving Lincoln’s historic structure.
Construction on the project is expected to happen in 2026.
