Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers recently announced he was forming a task force to improve employment in the state’s healthcare industry.

Evers chose 25 people to serve on that task force, including Gundersen Health System president Heather Schimmer, Dr. Tom Kernozek, who chairs the Department of Health Professions at UW-La Crosse, and Gundersen staffer, Laura Gould, who’s a nursing assistant

The taskforce will be chaired by Lt. Gov. Sara Rodriguez, who is a registered nurse.

Last week, the governor toured healthcare training facilities at Western Tech in La Crosse.

Evers visited classrooms and lab settings, where college students learn medical skills. He said a declining population base in the state makes it tougher to fill healthcare jobs.
