La Crosse mayor reacts to questions on proposed police review board
La Crosse Mayor Mitch Reynolds discussed Tuesday on WIZM’s La Crosse Talk a citizen review committee being created by the county to look at law enforcement.
Reynolds told host Mike Hayes the committee could review, study and educate policing activities but it would not have oversight power in city of La Crosse’s police matters.
“I would not allow for there to be oversight of the city police department by the county,” Reynolds said. “This is a county board, and that’s just not something that we would allow. That’s not the job of the county to oversee La Crosse police activity.”
The county board could vote at its monthly meeting Thursday on whether to form a citizen review board.
“This is solely something that’s come about at the county level,” Reynolds said. “This is not something that the city of La Crosse was interested in, or pushed for in any kind of way.”
A resolution calls for the formation of a 5-7 member committee, which would act upon complaints or concerns about law enforcement in La Crosse County. The program is proposed as a two- or three-year pilot project.
The idea of a civilian committee to review law enforcement in La Crosse County has been studied for a couple of years now, since the death of George Floyd in police custody in Minneapolis.
One recent opinion poll conducted by the county reportedly showed 70 percent of those responding were against creating such a board.

Not just last gasp Tara, trying to still run things after her exit. Now Tara clone Kruse, at the helm, brings forth leftist ideas like this and her screwball “advisory referenda” as a way to stay busy. Sorry to interrupt you while you contemplate DEI and sustainability matters, Monica.
We already have channels to file complaints on the cops for citizens. This is just a way to paralyze investigations and arrests.

Policing review board…..seems like another way to complicate and fubar life. There is no protection against a complaint. Harassment, discrimination, can only be interpreted by the eyes of the beholder. The committees always default to the eyes of the beholder. Seems like a group of monkeys have been handed a bunch of type writers and someone is hoping they can write a best selling book. I am hoping the committee members are volunteers because I do NOT WANT MY TAX MONEY PAYING FOR THIS LAYER of skatah!
