State of the Union needs to be heard

Published

on

Two days from now, the President of the United States will appear on national television to declare the state of the union is strong. President Joe Biden will deliver his State of the Union address to the nation on Thursday night. Sure, it is a lot or rah-rah as the President pats himself on the back for his accomplishments. It often feels like an hour-long campaign commercial. The timing of this year’s address is interesting, coming just two days after Super Tuesday, when both Biden and Donald Trump could essentially secure their nominations. Biden will no doubt use the speech to push for four more years on the job, but that is no reason for the speech not to be given. Congressman Scott Perry of Pennsylvania has encouraged House Speaker Mike Johnson to disinvite the President from giving the annual speech, calling it “more propaganda.” Maybe, but that is no reason to cancel the speech. We should all be interested to hear what Biden has to say about the state of our union. And let’s hope it stays civil this time. Nancy Pelosi was properly criticized when she ripped up a copy of President Trump’s speech. Marjorie Taylor Green was criticized for calling the President a liar. This speech is important, and deserves to be heard. It should not fall victim to partisan politics.

Scott Robert Shaw served as WIZM Program Director and News Director, and delivered the morning news on WKTY, Z-93 and 95.7 The Rock. Scott had been at Mid-West Family La Crosse since 1989, and retired in 2024

The state of the union address has become all propaganda as has much of the national news.
I stop watching the farce a long time ago no matter who was President.
All propaganda much like the national news broadcasts.

Very reasonable comments Mr. Shaw. I do not necessarily agree with the “we should all be interested to hear” because I stopped believing what politicians say quite some time ago. I watch as many different news programs as I can squeeze in and use opportunities like this speech to try to evaluate the person speaking. Yes I will be watching closely but maybe not listening too hard.

State of the Union needs to be heard.

Absolutely. So we can hear the GOP response and have hope again.

I agree we should hear what is being promoted from the white house in order to make an informed decision on what is being reported as truth , such as the “THE BORDER IS SECURE”.

When we hear from Raul Ortiz, who served as the US chief of the Border Patrol, and the current Chief Jason Owens that the border Czar Kamala Harris & President Joe Biden have never even spoke to them, we certainly cannot believe the administration is protecting the U.S. citizens.

We must make a distinction between a Resident and a U.S. Citizen. Citizens have rights with the expectation that the government will be protecting our family, friends, and neighbors. Not only physical protection but our economic well being. Just because I was a resident in Germany for 2 years I was not an EU citizen so I was unable to vote for Parliament elections.

That being stated, let’s hear how the administration will state how much has been accomplished without providing bullet point of what they are claiming. We should all be able to hear and WATCH it.

With all due respect, Listening to the State of the Union as delivered to you by a Nasty, Belligerent, Lying SOB – I would rather poke a dull stick in my eye. The only people that think this man is a leader is a card carrying democrat, mushy independent, or the incestual chamber of commerce republican.

Waste of air, Waste of space, Waste of resources…..

Maybe he will have Corn Pop in the cheap seats to help him sell his ineptitude!

Every time Biden opens his mouth he insults his audience. I’ve had enough of that lying old fool and his ruinous actions.

WIZM “forgot” to mention Alabama Sen Katie Britt will be delivering the Republican response to the State of the Union.
