September trial date set for Grant in 3rd Street drive-by gunfire

A week-long trial has been scheduled for the man accused of a drive-by, mass shooting that occurred on 3rd Street in downtown La Crosse last June.

Deandrew Grant of Rochester, Minn., will go on trial Sept. 9 in La Crosse County Court.

Grant is charged with 29 criminal counts, including six counts of attempted murder, for allegedly driving the wrong way on 3rd and firing shots at men he had argued with on June 17.

Seven people were wounded by the gunfire, while windows and a door at Polito’s pizza restaurant were damaged.

The incident took place the same weekend that the Wisconsin Republican Party was holding its state convention at the La Crosse Center.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk."
