Change of venue still possible in Winona murder case — suspect Fravel returns to court next week

A Winona County murder case might still be moved to another Minnesota county, because of pre-trial publicity.

The attorney for Adam Fravel is seeking the change of venue, following extensive media coverage of the disappearance last March of his ex-girlfriend, Madeline Kingsbury. Madeline’s body was found in June, and Fravel was arrested the same week.

Meanwhile, the Winona County prosecutor wants to restrict public access to information from grand jury transcripts, to prevent some evidence from being made public before a trial.

Two pre-trial hearings for Fravel are scheduled on March 19th and 20th before a Winona judge.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk."
