The Highway 82 bridge connects Lansing, Iowa to Highway 35 in Wisconsin, south of De Soto.

U.S. Senators from Wisconsin and Iowa are seeking help in getting a Mississippi River bridge open again.

They’re calling on the White House to work with both states in finding ways to finish repairs on the Black Hawk Bridge between Lansing, Iowa, and De Soto, Wis.

The bridge has been closed for almost three weeks because of structural failures. It’s caused drivers to take long detours about 30 miles away.

Sens. Tammy Baldwin and Ron Johnson from Wisconsin were joined by Iowa Sens. Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst in asking the president and the U.S. Department of Transportation to move quickly to fix the bridge.

It closed suddenly last month when those structural problems were discovered.

More than 2,000 drivers routinely use the bridge daily. Many have to detour to La Crosse or Prairie du Chien to cross the Mississippi.
