Grass fire in Medary highlights danger of dryness and high winds in spreading fires

A burn ban has been issued for the city of La Crosse and the town of Medary. And no sooner was that ban announced over the weekend, than La Crosse firefighters were called out to a grass fire in Medary on Sunday.

Fire crews say high winds apparently spread the flames from a fire pit, where a homeowner was burning garbage. About two acres of land were burned in the area of Deerfield Road, but no structures were damaged.

The city fire department warns that the fire danger in the La Crosse area is likely to be at a very high level for the next couple of days.
