Logan’s Yang finishes state on podium three times, Aquinas squad places in two relays

Julie Yang finished on the podium three times at state over the weekend for the Logan High School girls track and field team at UW-La Crosse, while Prairie du Chien junior Blake Thiry won four medals.

The senior took fourth in the 100 dash, while helping both the 800- and 400-relay teams finish third and fifth, respectively, in the Division 2 meet.

Yang led off that 800 relay, followed by teammates Liberty Sprain, Maddy Cornett and Lilly Dettwiler. The 400 relay also included Sprain, Aaliyah Hamiliton and Cornett.

Also competing in the 800 relay, taking fifth overall, was the Aquinas team made up of sophomores Alaina Elias Alexa Myre, Samantha Davis and senior Maddie Murphy.

On the boys side, David Malin, Logan Becker, Trey Bahr, Eli Horstman led Aquinas to the podium in two relays, taking fourth in the 400 and eighth in the 800.

Also scoring for the Blugolds were Declan Gregg and Jonathan Skemp 12 Aquinas in the 3,200, taking seventh and eighth, respectively.

West Salem had three podium finishes, led by a fifth place in the 400 relay (Abram Lassen, Jayden Hansen, Cole Everson, Carter Walter) and a sixth in the 3,200 relay (Philip Gabrielsen, Brennan Garbers, Drew Anderson, Brennon Anderson).

Walter also finished seventh in the 100 dash.

Meanwhile, Prairie du Chien junior Blake Thiry finished the meet medaling four times.

Thiry, who’s committed to play football at Indiana University, was third in the 110 hurdles and fifth in both the 300 hurdles and long jump. On Friday, he finished fourth in the triple jump.
