Pride flag flies proudly over Wisconsin Capitol

Published

on

June is Pride Month, and Governor Tony Evers has marked the occasion by flying a Pride flag over the state Capitol. And once again, people are criticizing him for it. Evers ordered the Pride flag to fly over the Capitol for the rest of the month, to show support for the LGBTQ community. Sure, it is purely symbolic, but it does send an important message that in the words of Governor Evers, “All are welcome here.” It is unclear how a message of inclusion can be considered divisive, but once again some are criticizing the Governor for the move. But it isn’t as if the American flag or others flown atop the Capitol are coming down to make way for a Pride flag. The U.S. flag and Wisconsin state flag will continue to fly over the East Wing of the Capitol, and will be located atop the Pride flag. The POW-MIA flag will continue flying on the North Wing flagpole. Evers is right when he says flying the Pride flag will serve as a reminder that the Capitol is the people’s house, and that our elected leaders serve at the pleasure of the people of the state, including those in the LGBTQ community.

The American flag should be the only flag flying over the Capital building

That flag has no place flying over any capitol building, or for that matter at any government building! Do we get to fly a hetersexual flag, a christian flag, a muslim state flag (oh yeah, state of minnesota already modified their flag to be muslim oriented, etc…..

The more the left tries to create unity, the more it divides…..good job.

We live in a post-religious, post-patriotic, post-truth world. People like Shaw are willing to pick up the banner of the daily zeitgeist as that is his new religion. It’s as shallow as that.

To think a week after Memorial Day, we have a journalist in the heartland presenting proudly the gay flag as equal to the POW MIA flag. And in his May 20 column his position was men should be allowed in women’s bathrooms. Twenty years ago that guy would have been run out of town.

    La Crosse deserves better.

There should be two flags flying over the state capitol. The American flag and Wisconsin state flag. I am a veteran before you say anything.
