More than a year after the murder of a Winona area woman, the suspect in her death is asking to have his trial moved to a different county.

Last week, the attorneys for Adam Fravel argued before a Winona County judge that a high level of media coverage and other attention to the case call for a change of venue.

Friday marked one year since Madeline Kingsbury’s remains were found in Fillmore County, near Mabel, Minn., and Fravel was arrested.

Kingsbury had been reported missing at the end of March, 2023, leading to large search efforts and public vigils. Fravel was her ex-boyfriend.

More hearings are planned in Winona before Fravel can go on trial for homicide and a specific trial date is yet to be set.
