La Crosse resident jailed on alleged murder charge over reported death in Shelby

A 39-year-old La Crosse man is expected to appear in court on Tuesday on a murder charge.

Zachary Fritz was arrested Monday and is being held without bond in the La Crosse County jail on a tentative charge of 1st degree homicide.

Fritz did not go before a judge on Monday, because a criminal complaint was still being prepared.

The La Crosse County Sheriff’s Office has been investigating an apparent murder in the Town of Shelby.

Fritz was arrested for assault in 2009 in a La Crosse County domestic abuse case. He was found not guilty on three counts, due to mental disease or defect.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk."
