Onalaska resident awaits Jackson County court hearing in drug death

An Onalaska man charged with reckless homicide is scheduled to appear in Jackson County court next week.

Aspen Kalina is accused of contributing to the death of a man living at a treatment facility, by selling drugs to the man.

The death happened over a year ago, in May of 2023, at a home in the town of Albion.

The 33-year-old Kalina appeared in court last month, when a $500,000 cash bond was approved. His adjourned initial appearance is on the court schedule for Monday.

Court records show he also has active drug cases in two other area counties.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.
