The La Cross Steam softball team opens its inaugural season Saturday at Copeland Park.

The Steam are the softball equivalent of the La Crosse Loggers baseball team, where college softball and baseball players from around the country spend their summer in the city to continue playing their sport.

It’s the first-ever league of its kind of softball players. The Northwoods Softball League has four teams for this inaugural season.

Along with the Steam are the Minot Honeybees, Madison Night Mares and the Mankato Habaneros.

The Steam open at 6:35 p.m. Saturday against Madison at Copeland. Single-game tickets range from $9 to $16 online.
