The Mississippi River hit the 12-foot flood stage in La Crosse on Sunday and should crest later this week.

As of late Monday afternoon, the local river stage was at 12.5 feet. It’ll hit 13.8 feet by Friday, according to forecasters.

Large amounts of water coming from the north could cause those predictions to change soon.

The river rose 1.5 feet over the weekend.

Further north on the river, the water was just over flood stage at Trempealeau and Winona on Monday.
