A close shave in Third District Congressional race
The race for Wisconsin’s Third Congressional District looks to be getting interesting. The Democratic primary features candidates Rebecca Cooke and Katrina Shankland, as well as Eric Wilson, each hoping to replace Republican incumbent Congressman Derrick Van Orden. Cooke debuted her first television ad yesterday that talks of her growing up on a sixth-generation family farm in Eau Claire. The ad takes direct aim at Van Orden, saying he has done nothing to help our family farms. She does not mention either of her primary opponents. But Shankland was not about to ignore Cooke. Shankland currently serves in the Wisconsin Assembly, and her ad boasts that she has experience in politics, while Cooke does not. She boasts of having passed 225 bills during her time in the Legislature, while Cooke has passed none. To illustrate her point, she shaves her husband’s head on camera while asking “Would you hire a barber who never cut hair before? So why send someone to Congress who has never held public office?” It is too bad that so far these candidates haven’t agreed to a debate, citing scheduling conflicts. Because this race is starting to be one to watch. Maybe we would see another close shave.

Look what our country has tuned into when the democrats are in charge. Why would you want more of that. Don’t vote for any democrats,if you do you deserve what you get.

Is it wise to critize congressional candidate Rebecca Cooke’s experience? Her expereince is extensive. Born and raised on a dairy farm, she has a small business, operates a nonprofit that provdies grants to small businesses, works as a waitress, appointed to Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation. And please recall that Herb Kohl and Ron Kind both were both elected (U.S. Representative and U.S. Senator) without any prior legislative experience. I think both served us well an so will Rebecca Cooke.

Thomas, your benchmark for effectiveness needs to be revisited: Both Herb Kohl and Ron Kind were well known for their lack of legislative leadership and accomplishment.
Ron Kind would occasionally have his picture taken on a dairy farm and Herb Kohl same only usually milk and cookies at elementary schools. Both voted as they were told on national issues so neither represented Wisconsin constituents well.
