Reasonable gun control a good place to start to show unity

Both political parties are calling for unity in the wake of the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. That doesn’t mean Democrats and Republicans will gather for a group hug anytime soon, but it should mean both sides do a better job listening to one another, and the American people. One place to start would be on the issue of gun control. Clearly we have a problem with guns in this country. It is too easy for those with bad intentions to get their hands on one. How else could a 20-year-old loner with a history of being bullied and wearing hunting clothes so easily get his hands on a deadly weapon? In this case, we’re told he got the gun from his father, who had purchased the weapon. But he was also easily able to purchase 50 rounds of ammunition for the AR-15 just hours before he pulled the trigger. It is possible for gun control legislation to be drafted that protects the rights of legal gun owners, while making sure that precautions are put in place to make sure bad actors can’t easily access one. Should it really be that easy to buy ammo for a military-style rifle on the same day and in the same city where a former President is speaking? Gun control is one of the most contentious issues in our country, but now would be a good time for having a rational debate about what to do about all this gun violence.

The laws on the books now are enough. Start enforcing them. Also, let’s start taking people off of medications and getting them back in the pews of religion. Society is broke. The golden rule is gone.

And don’t forget evil people will do evil things. We can’t stop them. Drunk people still drive drunk. Suicidal people still cut wrists, and take pills.

Shaw typical response from a small thinking democrat. Don’t let a bad moment go to waste.

One very big problem SRS. Criminals do not follow the law. You can pass as many laws as you want, you could even succeed in throwing away the 2nd amendment (the Constitution), but you will still have crime. Isn’t murder illegal? The only thing standing between you and a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.

      LG…you are on point

Perhaps Mr Shaw should look at the laws on the books right now that were not being followed. Such as 1) Murder 2) Bombs and explosives in his car/home 3) Trespassing on a roof 4) attempted murder 5) Shooting in a public place….

This clearly is physical harm that was induced by the perpetrator, there is so much on the liberal side that is not physical violence but psychological. This is from media to educational systems.

As an example, the pulpit used on a media station could be looked at as a weapon of choice. Not firearm in the traditional sense but heck, the BLOG shoots out bullets every day entering into the thoughts of individuals such as Matthew Crooks.

Again, perhaps that ammunition should be banned. Just a thought

More laws more freedom taken away, its time to enforce the current laws instead of spreading your democrat narrative of lies and misinformation.

Get out much, Scott? If wearing cammo clothing makes you an assassination suspect, about 40% of the town could be in handcuffs at one point or another.
How about we put some capable male teachers in the school hallways during class breaks and make the kids keep their phones at home. Kids today can be relentlessly cruel in school buildings. The girls are the worst. Forget the gun control talk. Not going to happen

While you’re infringing on 2nd amendment rights, lets agree that 1st amendment rights of the press should make you subject to litigation when you knowingly peddle lies and deceit.

Hilarious. Scott’s idea of an olive branch is for non-liberals to cross over to the liberal’s position on gun control. And he’s serious.
