As I See It
Slow down in work zones, and put the phone down
It isn’t winter, so it must be road construction season in Wisconsin. It seems everywhere you drive you’ll find orange barrels and lane reductions. As drivers it is easy to complain about all the construction and the delays it causes. Sometimes they are had to navigate and confusing. But the roads will never be fixed if we don’t give crews a chance to fix them, so we have to learn to live with work zones on our roads. That means paying close attention when traveling through work zones. It isn’t happening as often as it should. In Wisconsin, there were more than 2100 crashes in work zones last year, leading to nine deaths and more than 700 injuries. But many of those crashes are preventable if drivers just paid more attention. The most common causes of work zone accidents are speeding, tailgating and distracted driving. So when you reach construction zones, slow down, put the phone down and leave more room between you and the car in front of you. After taking those precautions, just grin and bear it, because soon enough road construction season will be over, and it will be winter again.

You should worry more about the fact many drivers in this area are blatantly running red lights.
