Bat houses approved, tiki bar denied at Pettibone by La Crosse Park Board

Some changes to Pettibone Park were brought before La Crosse’s park board on Thursday.

Approved was a plan to install bat houses in the park.

Staffers say as many as 500 brown bats have been living under the Pettibone bridge, and the elevated houses would give them a better place to stay.

Similar bat houses have been placed near other area bridges.

Also, a new location for an outdoor tiki bar at the Pettibone Boat Club is being withdrawn for now,.

Park officials are going to work on a new concept.

The proposal had been postponed from May’s park board meeting.

How many “staffers” does the city employ to keep an eye on the unhoused bats? What would the bats do without the City Council advocating for improved living conditions for these marginalized creatures?

Don’t these elected officials get tired of looking for things to spend taxpayers money on? Now they are placing low-income housing for bats so the bats don’t sleep under the Pettibone bridge. Homeless bats. There are some old bats serving in County government that need to be moved, I’ll grant you that. These wild bats are perfectly happy under the bridge. Lottsa flying bugs under there
