A new city-owned trail in La Crosse was approved Thursday by the city’s park board.

The Veterans Freedom Trail would be located near the Black River and close to Copeland Park.

Deputy director Dan Trussoni in the parks department described to the board where the trail connecting different war memorials would go.

“This is kind of a potential project we had settled on,” Trussoni said, “upgrading this trail that would run from Clinton Street, along the river, connect the existing memorials, and then end at the Louie Ferris drive there.”

Ferris was a local veteran, who helped develop the memorial project. He died in late 2021 at the age of 91.

Fine, but it would be nice to be informed what the project will cost; just because it’s kinda important to know these things.
