No charges for 24-year-old woman, who was arrested after Wisconsin US House Rep. Derrick Van Orden accused her of assault
No charges for the 24-year-old woman, whom Wisconsin US House Rep. Derrick Van Orden accused of assault and political violence.
Kent Lovern, the chief deputy district attorney for Milwaukee County, told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that the evidence in the case, including police body camera footage, “is insufficient to support a criminal charge” against the Code Pink activist Nour Jaghama.
Van Orden and Jaghama were in line for an RNC event Tuesday at the Pfister Hotel.
Van Orden, a former Navy Seal who represents the 3rd District, including La Crosse, put a statement out Tuesday on Twitter claiming “political violence” against Jaghama due to being assaulted
Code Pink, however, denied any assault happened, and claimed it was Van Orden who “tried to shove past” her in line.
Code Pink is also pursuing bodycam footage and filing an ethics complaint against the Republican. Van Orden, in his Twitter statement, said it was witnessed by a police officer.
Police did arrest Jaghama and said Van Orden had “minor injuries and refused medical attention on scene,” though he told a crowd the next day he’s “been hit harder from air coming out of a blow dryer,” according to the Sentinel.
The paper also did ask Van Orden about his injuries and he said she “hip-checked me into cement.” He added that his hip hurt but noted he is “in pain all the time.”
“Is that because of her or because of me?” he said of the pain in his hip. “I don’t know, and I don’t care.”
After the incident, Jaghama said in a video posted to Twitter, “He tried to cut me in line so I stood in front of him because I was first.”
She also told the paper she was detained 15 hours and released Wednesday morning.

More political clownery from WIZM. The radio version is worse than what’s printed above. The offender is not just an activist but an actual Palestinian and a member of the anti-American group Code Pink. Given the propensity for violence from these groups that these protesters were allowed anywhere near a member of Congress would seem to be a security breach.
By all accounts the Convention has been a great success and Wisconsin a wonderful host that has benefited from positive press…something Milwaukee doesn’t often earn. The Fiserv Center is awesome. Too bad the press is incapable of reporting without the its characteristic odor.

Why not give a link to the video footage so we can decide for ourselves who was at fault?
