Wisconsin state Assembly Rep. Steve Doyle in studio discussing the Joe Biden departure, how governments are dealing with homelessness, the constitutional amendments on the August ballot and the Legislature’s inability to talk across the isle.

La Crosse Talk PM airs weekdays at 5:06 p.m. Listen on the WIZM app, online here, or on 92.3 FM / 1410 AM / 106.7 FM (north of Onalaska). Find all the podcasts here or subscribe to La Crosse Talk PM wherever you get your podcasts.

We began with Republicans trying to change the state constitution, to pull decision-making power from the governor in times of emergencies. A thing the GOP didn’t have a problem with when Scott Walker was governor, but he didn’t go through a pandemic.

So, floated Doyle the idea of defining those emergencies, which could be done in the Legislature — and not by wordy, confusing constitutional amendments. That, however led to a conversation (10:00) about how the Legislature doesn’t communicate across the aisle, let alone work together.

After that (19:20), we discussed the homeless issue in La Crosse and across the state, as Doyle is also on the La Crosse County Board.

After that, (25:00) we finished off the show diving into Biden dropping out of the presidential race and some of the talking points surrounding that, like Republicans saying he then isn’t fit to be president now or that Democrats are subverting democracy by selecting his replacement, after the primary.

Doyle is a Democrat in the 94th District. Republican Ryan Huebsch is running against him.

I thank President Biden for his great service to our country..It was a courageous act. Thank you President Biden.
I pray you the rest of your time as president to ensure SS, Medicare, Medicaid are impossible for GOP to privatize them. That would only mean a substantial amount of money being diverted from the programs to go into the hands of greedy people, who will make sure they have a bountiful compensation package, will eliminate many employees, reduce payments to medical staff, reduce the programs care, just like everything that’s ever been privatized. People need school meals (healthy ones),help w shelter, food, utilities, transportation, schools need funding, the rich should be taxed on all their wealth – including fake subsidiaries, off shore accounts, capital gains, money given to Black Rock and Black Stone to Invest. Interest must be brought down. It’s came into being because of the greed of corporations, CEOs, and owners, and investors. Inflation had nothing to do with wages and benefits, unions – except they wanted to eliminate unions, bring wages and benefits to the lowest possible. Inflation is making the billionaires billions more: they own the banks, are buying up the houses workers had to sell bc everything got too expensive and job loss – they are buying up all the infrastructur:: homes, businesses, banks, schools, libraries, transportation, airports, farms, pharmaceuticals, food businesses, roads – everything. They buy it and we pay more to USE, not own. This is why everything has become so expensive and prices will continue to rise. Can you do anything to make into law that the agencies that exist to protect people can’t be eliminated or powers reduced? Can you increase IRS w agents very educated in the complexities of the super rich’s monopolies, investments, laundering income and profits? Start immediately at the top. AND PARDON YOUR SON, AND REMAKE SCOTUS.
Give us the means to force term limits on Congress and SCOTUS (and make them elected), and where the public decides Judiciary, legislature, executive branches their compensation packages. I think it’s time we get to what all the people need. We must put aside abortion, contraceptives, LGBT, DEI, WOKE. These are small groups, all which need their economic lives greatly improved.
