As I See It

100 days, more bottled water

Published

on

And the clock just keeps ticking. It has now been more than 100 days, 101 to be exact, since the Wisconsin Legislature failed to act to help provide clean drinking water and health care access to our citizens. Governor Tony Evers called lawmakers into a special session to address PFAS cleanup and respond to the closure of health care facilities like those in the Chippewa Valley. They did neither. 101 days ago they refused to even meet to discuss these important issues, and they haven’t spent a day dealing with them since. The silly part is, the $140 million to address PFAS contamination has already been allocated. The money was approved to be spent. But they haven’t approved how it should be spent, so the money continues to sit in a Madison bank account while the people on French Island and elsewhere continue to rely on bottled water for their drinking supply. Our state representatives have plenty of time to deal with PFAS. It’s not like they are doing something else important. They are on their taxpayer-funded vacation for the rest of the year. Wisconsinites deserve clean drinking water and accessible health care. They shouldn’t have to wait another 100 days to get them.

There is nothing “silly” about this matter except this editorial.

The Legislature allocated $140M of taxpayer monies but wants to know where it will be spent. That’s their job. Apparently, the Gov is not responsive or incapable of responding to that request.

The Gov and the DNR he is responsible for managing are not doing their jobs. The DNR sat on their hands for decades and allowed the PFAS pollution to occur.

Also, the City of La Crosse and La Crosse County are responsible for the airport pollution…why are they not providing some assistance? Crickets.

    Ditto Walden

SRS and others on the liberal left seem to believe that spending money is the solution. As long as the money is spent, problem solved. Don’t worry about the details. Just spend the money and sit back and feel good that you didn’t just stand there, you did something. and that’s how government budget deficits are created.
