La Crosse committee approves rezoning for REACH Center, while neighbors express concern
Should an office building for the CouleeCap agency be replaced with housing?
A La Crosse city committee heard from supporters of the REACH Center on 11th Street South, and from neighbors, who would prefer that the area be residential.
The Judiciary and Administration Committee sent, Tuesday night, the full city council a proposal to rezone the building from a residential district to a neighborhood use, so a dental clinic could be upgraded.
CouleeCap purchased the building, which had been up for sale for several months.
The public commented on loitering, camping and drug use at the REACH property.
One speaker suggested that the offices be moved to another location, possibly the vacant Wells Fargo bank downtown.
The full city council could decide on the zoning at its August meeting next week Thursday.
