La Crosse police announce arrests in child death from September

A child’s death at a La Crosse home last fall has led to the arrests of a man and woman, on charges of child neglect.

Lavon Liggins, 43, and 33-year-old Brittany Basley are being held without bond in the La Crosse County jail.

Their arrests were announced by La Crosse police on Wednesday, and the district attorney’s office is preparing criminal complaints against both Basley and Liggins.

According to jail records, both face a charge of being a party to the crime of neglecting a child, causing death.

They are also accused of violating probation.

La Crosse police say the child was not breathing, when officers answered an emergency call on back in September.

Police say the investigation is still active.
