Jury chosen for second Nya Thao murder trial, as testimony begins Tuesday

Fourteen jurors were selected Monday for the second La Crosse County murder trial of Nya Thao, who’s accused of shooting three men at a rural West Salem quarry in 2021.

The jury was chosen from a pool of about 100 called to court Monday morning. Opening statements happen Tuesday in Judge Elliott Levine’s courtroom.

Thao was tried already for the murders in June of 2023, but that jury could not agree on a verdict.

The previous trial lasted about a week.

Nemo Yang, Peng Lor and Trevor Maloney were shot to death in July of 2021.

Thao is accused of being the shooter, firing the gun under the orders of Kham Rattanasack, who is now in prison for his part in the murders.
