Suspect in south-side La Crosse death chooses not to appear before judge, as hearing gets postponed

A 55-year-old La Crosse man, arrested last week, after a suspicious death could appear in court Tuesday, after refusing to take part in Monday’s hearing.

John Stumlin was arrested late last week and is being held in the county jail without bond.

Stumlin is accused of first-degree homicide in La Crosse and hiding a corpse. He was taken into custody after deputies were called to the La Crosse Mobile Home Park on Mormon Coulee Road last week and found a deceased person outdoors.

La Crosse County Judge Mark Huesmann said Stumlin would not participate in a hearing Monday afternoon, so the case will be called again during intake court Tuesday.

A criminal complaint has not been filed yet by the district attorney’s office.
