As I See It

Don’t forget, today is election day

It is understandable if you forgot, or weren’t aware, but today is election day in Wisconsin. August primaries are often overlooked and tend to attract fewer voters than most elections. The La Crosse County Clerk estimates a turnout today of only around 20%, meaning about 80% won’t take the time to cast a ballot. Some things to know if you are heading to the polls? Don’t forget to flip the ballot over. On the back of the ballot are two statewide referendum questions that seek to limit the power of the Governor to spend federal money like we saw during the pandemic. There is little drama elsewhere on the ballot, with a handful of La Crosse County elected officials running unopposed in today’s primary. A reminder too that you can only vote for candidates of one party. You can’t vote for a Democrat in one contest and a Republican in another. If you aren’t registered to vote, you can still do so, today at your local polling place, before casting your ballot. And be assured, your vote is safe and secure. Polls are open statewide from 7am to 8pm.  So, even if you haven’t made plans to do so, take time to cast your ballot today.  Your vote could be the one that makes a difference.
