Giant Stars and Stripes raised at Onalaska’s Coachman RV store

It may be the biggest U.S. flag for miles around. A 40-by-80 foot flag has was installed outside the Coachmen RV Camping World store in Onalaska recently.

The company held an official flag raising at noon Tuesday, that included veterans and the National Guard, raising the flag up the 143-foot pole.

Flags went up at company stores across the country Tuesday.

The “truck” is the term for the gold ball that tops the flagpole. Brian McConnell, the local manager, said a majority of employees at the Crossing Meadows store signed that ball before the flagpole was installed.

“We have a flag at every one of our locations,” McConnell noted. “The vast majority have what we call the big flag”

Some technical problems delayed raising for a few minutes, before the banner was raised mechanically.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area.
