Downtown La Crosse will be a scene Thursday with Donald Trump in town, a Moon Tunes concert and a Viking cruise ship
The main arena at the La Crosse Center can hold around 7,000 people, and that’s what they’re preparing for as Donald Trump gets set to hold a town hall there Thursday evening.
Gates for people waiting in line outside the La Crosse Center are already set up and porta-potties are staged along the front of the building.
There were rumors that the city cleared homeless encampments Wednesday, because Trump was coming to town. That’s not true, unless the city or council knew at its Aug. 8 meeting of Trump’s plans, which were announced last Saturday. On Aug. 16, the city began posting signs to vacate by 7 a.m. Aug. 28.
The town hall isn’t the only thing going on Thursday, downtown.
There’s a Moon Tunes concert in Riverside Park. It’s starting earlier, at 3:45 p.m., because one of the big boats is docked in the Mississippi River. The concert time was moved up so those guests can enjoy the show before departing around 5 p.m.
The La Crosse Police Department is warning that anyone traveling around the area, prepare for delays. Whether that’s just added traffic from the various events, or the fact that a motorcade with Trump from the La Crosse Regional Airport will be rolling through.
No word on when Trump is expected to land, but the last time a president came to town, Joe Biden took the La Crescent, Minn., route to get to downtown La Crosse. But that’s no indication if Trump will do the same.
Doors at the La Crosse Center for the Trump town hall are set to open at 2 p.m. The event is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Before Trump heads to La Crosse, however, the ex-president will be in Potterville, Michigan. That event, however, is not open to the public. But, it is Trump’s third trip to Michigan in the past week.
The last time Trump was in Wisconsin was for the Republican National Convention back in mid-July.
