Dr. Aaron Engel, the School District of La Crosse superintendent, joins to further discuss the upcoming $53.5 million referendum question coming to voters in the fall election.

La Crosse Talk airs weekdays at 6-9 a.m. Listen on the WIZM app, online here, or on 92.3 FM / 1410 AM / 106.7 FM (north of Onalaska). Find all the podcasts here or subscribe to La Crosse Talk PM wherever you get your podcasts.

While we again broke down the plan, we also talked about some of the things that need to happen if the referendum passes, including naming the new elementary school and what kind of things might be included in a new building.

We also talked about how this plan has evolved, how much outreach the district is doing this time around and what the net impact would be on property taxpayers.

There’s a public informational session once a week through October, including from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday at Hamilton Elementary School. Here’s the rest of the info sessions schedule.

Some sidebar conversations we did have dealt with the new vape sensors in some bathrooms in school and whether there was ever a need to transition from turf field playgrounds to something more natural.

Why do we consistently ask for additional dollars from our community. Start looking for efficiencies in operation.

When educators could push for the “work from home” or virtual instruction, they were all over it. Why can’t they use one professor in the state and conduct virtual courses in such as computer science, computer engineering, etc. The UW regents need to address fiscal responsibilities, there are plenty of course this can be done with. https://catalog.uwlax.edu/undergraduate/coursedescriptions/

Every other business in the private sector needs to focus on costs/efficiencies to drive down costs. Education is so tied into the government such as the federal- state relationship in higher education funding.

Do the hard work even though it may not be popular, and do not ask for additional referendums from the local community to shoulder the excessive spending of U.W.L.
