Ninth-annual Coulee Career Fest in Onalaska on Sept. 17, 2024.

The largest annual regional job fair is back Tuesday at the OmniCenter in Onalaska.

Kevin Ruetten joins WIZM’s La Crosse Talk to tell us about why the ninth-annual Coulee Career Fest — happening from 10:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. Tuesday — is one of the best ways for job seekers and employers to find what they are looking for — even if it’s not Ninja Warrior / American Gladiator themed (a joke you’ll get upon hearing the interview).

La Crosse Talk airs weekdays at 6-9 a.m. Listen on the WIZM app, online here, or on 92.3 FM / 1410 AM / 106.7 FM (north of Onalaska). Find all the podcasts here or subscribe to La Crosse Talk PM wherever you get your podcasts.

Ruetten, the business service coordinator at Western Wisconsin Workforce Development and with Western Tech, explains why getting this face-to-face experience — not just with potential employers but resources to help you get that job you seek — is second-to-none in terms of finding a career. And it’s that term, “career,” that is one of the main focuses.

Ruetten says potential employers aren’t just there to get someone hired, they’re there to help explain to people what advancement in each company might look like.

There will be 70 regional employers, plus 10 other career services at the OmniCenter.

There’s nothing special anyone needs to bring. If you’re dressed up, great, but it can be casual as well. But, you may want to bring a bib, because Big Boar BBQ is grilling outside for those that show up — and we note, you don’t want to go into a job interview with BBQ on your shirt or tie.
