SCOTT ROBERT SHAW: A message from Mike Hayes

Published

on

I have shared many stories here at WIZM, but none are more difficult than this.

My friend, a friend to everyone, the man with the gift of gab, Mike Hayes, a local legend and host of WIZM’s La Crosse Talk for 39 years, and the voice of this radio station, has asked me to share this statement:

Dear WIZM listeners
I know a lot of you have been wondering where I’ve been the past few weeks. Unfortunately, I haven’t been on a beach sipping umbrella drinks. The fact is, back in July, I was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer. As you can imagine, a lot of tests, doctor’s appointments and now treatments go along with that. It’s going to be a bit yet, but as soon as a feel a little better, I plan to get back into that studio. I love you all… and don’t forget to hug your kids.
— Mike Hayes

If you would like to send your well wishes, email Hayes at [email protected] or you can send him a card in the mail at:

201 State Street, La Crosse, WI, 54601

Mike – God Bless You, I am so sad to hear this news as you are a wonderful and caring man. Even though you are more on the conservative side you are always personable and courteous to everyone. You never slam the other side and stick up for their rights to express their opinions. Always a staunch supporter of Lacrosse talk PM even though it does not align with your policies. It would serve others in the WIZM Radio station well if they take note of how to conduct themselves.

As none of us know when it will be our time to leave this earth, yours is becoming shorter. You will be missed my friend

Mike you are in my prayers, unfortunately Scott Robert Shaw is the worst reporter on the planet. He misrepresented a story about the USPS that I called him on and he actually confessed he just “assumed what he reported was the truth” He lied.

    I have no words.
The world will “not” be a better place when your voice is no longer on the air.
Your catch phrase “Hug your kids” will live on forever. Thoughts and prayers, my friend.

Mike, every morning I turn on WIZM to listen to your program! Unfortunately, without knowing the reason why you were not on the air, I turn it off. Ugh. My prayers are with you. Looking forward to the day that your voice of reason is back!!!! Two words: Mayo, Rochester!!!
