A back-to-school visit by Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers took him to one La Crosse school for a boat trip and into the classroom for artwork.

Evers joined some Summit Environmental Elementary School students Monday in making art and listening to stories outdoors. The governor also spent a few minutes riding in a boat on a pond near the French Island school.

Evers was a career educator before becoming Wisconsin’s state school superintendent, and then governor. He complimented Summit’s staff for nature and environmental instruction.

“The idea of how they can be good stewards of the land and enjoy it at the same time, I think those are all really important lessons to learn that the children that attend this school are lucky enough to learn it with not reading about it, but actually doing it,” said the governor.

The governor’s visit to Summit was part of a statewide tour to celebrate National Clean Energy Week.
