As I See It
Have a fun, and safe Oktoberfest
Happy Oktoberfest La Crosse! This is for many the biggest weekend of the year, and a chance to show off our fine city and welcome our visitors. Some estimate the size of the crowd for tomorrow’s parade at 100,000 people. They are here to have fun and drink beer, not necessarily in that order. So let’s show them a good time. But above all, we all need to work to keep each other safe. As hosts, we need to set a good example of how to have fun responsibly, by obeying the rules, not testing their limits. We can help those, perhaps visiting La Crosse for the first time, to navigate their way around, or recommend some spots for dinner or beverages. But above all, we need to work to keep each other safe. There will be many intoxicated people stumbling around. Police will have a heavy presence and can provide assistance, while the Third Street Aid Station will be operational again for people looking to find their way, their friends, or just charge their phones. If you’ve been drinking, don’t get behind the wheel. There are many ways to get wherever you need to go without driving. And stay away from the river. Of course, look out for your friends, and stick together. Here’s to a happy, and safe Oktoberfest. Prost!

People returning annually for Oktoberfest will be welcomed by the homeless Bidenville along the Black River as they enter the City and notice the marked decline in the City’s vitality under the current Mayor and City Council.
I am encouraged by the resounding boos delivered to the Dems marching in the Torchlight Parade last night.

The latest homeless enclave of size is on the Northside (where those on the Southside believe they should be) on west size of Rose St. bordering the Black River. It’s now posted as a No Trespassing area belonging to the State of Wisconsin and claims that Violators will be prosecuted (they won’t and they know it). It started with a handful of squatters which is when they should have more easily moved out, but the city officials believe that wouldn’t be sporting–better to wait until there is 25 or more tents and general squalor down there, much which was hidden somewhat from the traffic on Rose St. being over the bank. But now there are tent on top of the bank along near the “La Crosse Welcomes You” sign and statue. Visitors to La Crosse coming from the North on what was supposed to be this nice welcoming corridor instead get to see this homelessness mess, people who feel that are not required to live by the same restrictions, rules, and regulations that the rest of us must live by.
City of La Crosse officials seem to live by the popular definition of insanity: Doing the same things over and over the same way and expecting a better result.
