Month without rain in La Crosse gets city close to weather record

La Crosse has had a four-week dry spell this fall, according to the National Weather Service – La Crosse.

As of Saturday, the city had gone for 28 consecutive days without measurable precipitation —dating back to Sept. 22.

That period tied for the eighth longest in La Crosse history, matching a dry period just four years ago, in 2020, starting around Thanksgiving.

The longest dry spell on record in the city is 44 days, which occurred from Oct. 20-Dec. 2 of 1976.

The weather office added that there’s little chance for new rain in La Crosse over the next week.

    We don’t need any rain right now. Dry, sunny days are ideal for the farmers’ harvesting. Hunters like it. Late season fishermen are still on the river. Fall colors are vibrant in the sunshine. Growing season is over. Wet, cold rain can wait. Get outside and breathe.
