West Salem Village Administrator Teresa DeLong said on La Crosse Talk last week the municipality’s proposal to purchase 10 acres from La Crosse County is the first of two purchase offers that will occur before their agreement with La Crosse County expires at the end of the year.

La Crosse Talk airs weekdays at 6-8 a.m. Listen on the WIZM app, online here, or on 92.3 FM / 1410 AM / 106.7 FM (north of Onalaska). Find all the podcasts here or subscribe to La Crosse Talk PM wherever you get your podcasts.

DeLong said the $250,0000 purchase utilizes their first right to purchase that has been in place for about 15 years.

The land is known as the County Farm. The West Salem Village Administrator said all purchases follow the plan developed for the area. The new development is then part of the Lakeview Business Park.

At that point, the county can sell the land to anyone without the West Salem Village getting first rights. All projects need to come to the Village Board for zoning approval.

Plan for the Lakeview Business Park

The purchase before the La Crosse County Board is an additional property to be owned by Kenrich Foods, for a future expansion.

The administrator revealed there is a second property likely to be purchased before the end of the year, which is when their first right to purchase would expire.
