La Crosse Police Chief Shawn Kudron gives a glimpse of leading in modern day policing, as he hits year five on at the position. Kudron sat down with BizCast Greater La Crosse host Vicki Markussen to discuss how much policing has changed.

With five new recruits to the force a few weeks ago, the department begins to equip the officers for encounters with mental health, the need to connect people to community resources, and working across departments to make La Crosse safer.

Kudron recaps his pathway to chief from growing up in Nebraska, coming to school in Winona, and being recruited to La Crosse where he’s served from DARE officer to mounted police and investigations over his 20+ year career.

Within a year of being chief, the pandemic unfolded and the George Floyd incident changed policing.

He also touches on how the recent arrest in the long-unsolved Terry Dolloway murder in 1985 provides hope for other cold cases being solved.
