A rally Monday for Republicans at the La Crosse County GOP headquarters saw about 100 supporters.

Eight GOP US House Reps. were in attendance, including Majority Leader Steve Scalise and Wisconsin’s 3rd District Rep. Derrick Van Orden.

Former Wisconsin state Sen. Dan Kapanke spoke to the crowd about Donald Trump winning the election.

“When he gets inagurated, President Trump, Vice President (JD) Vance, Derrick Van Orden, Elon Musk, all these people here, they’re going to dismantle Washington, D.C.,” Kapanke said, adding that they’ll build it back the way the forefathers envisioned it.”

Kapanke, the Town of Campbell board chair, went on to broadly described what a Trump presidency would look like.

“If you watch the right news channel in the next four years, you’re going to see a four-year movie, patriotic movie, about moving America,” Kapanke said. “So, grab some popcorn, button your seatbelt and enjoy the ride, because it’s going to be something.”

One of those in attendance was Holmen native Bill Wertz, who said he remembers when he was 6 years old and Harry Truman was in office — taking over upon Franklin Roosevelt’s death in April of 1945 and serving until January of 1953.

Wertz said now he has gone all in on Donald Trump.

“I’ve probably donated — I’m not bragging — more money to this campaign for Trump, OK, and Vance, if you added up all the money I’ve spent historically over all the elections I’ve been involved,” Wertz said. “We have got to win to save this country.”

Wertz, who added that he’s voted Republican in every election, said he is worried about Democrats taking power.

“If we don’t win this election, it’s going to be terrible, because what they’re going to do, the first thing they’re going to do is they’re going to pack the Supreme Court,” Werts said. “They’re going to get all of these eligible immigrants that are moving into this country, they’re going to get them all voting, OK, and we will never win another election.”

Wertz believes crime is “unbelievable” and the border is the biggest reason he was rallying for Republicans. He also mentioned the economy and jobs as being a disaster right now.

Along with Scalise and Van ORden, the GOP reps. at the ralling included Erin Houchin (Indiana), Randy Feenstra (Iowa), Vern Buchanan (Florida), Ann Wagner (Missouri), Steve Womack (Arkansas) and Richard Hudson (North Carolina).
