PRAIRIE DU CHIEN, Wis. — A 39-year-old Lancaster, Wis., man jailed in Prairie du Chien is suspected of reckless homicide in another man’s stabbing death.

Jessie Slaughter is in jail, following an initial court appearance Monday in Crawford County Court.

Prairie du Chien Police said 65-year-old Daniel Welsch was found dead inside a house in that city last Friday night. Welsch reportedly died after being attacked with a sharp object.

Slaughter was arrested the next day. The two men reportedly knew each other.

A warrant had been issued for Slaughter’s arrest after he failed to show up for a court hearing in Oneida County this summer.

His next hearing in Crawford County is expected in mid-November.
