Mac Kiel and Mackenzie Mindel in the WIZM studio for La Crosse Talk on Oct. 28, 2024.

It was a Mack and Mac Monday morning on La Crosse Talk with city council members Mac Kiel and Mackenzie Mindel in studio, discussing city administrator, homelessness and a new parking ramp ordinance proposal.

La Crosse Talk airs weekdays at 6-9 a.m. Listen on the WIZM app, online here, or on 92.3 FM / 1410 AM / 106.7 FM (north of Onalaska). Find all the podcasts here or subscribe to La Crosse Talk PM wherever you get your podcasts.

We also talked about Traditional Neighborhood Development (TND) zoning changes and the impact of District 5 not having representation for what will be a year, which was voted for by the council.

This comes ahead of next week’s Judiciary and Administration Committee meeting, which will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday, because of the election. Mindel is the chair of the committee and Kiel also sits on it.

One piece of legislation there is to have a working group for city administrator, which the council voted to put off deciding to create until after the April elections.

Another thing on the agenda is basically making it illegal to do anything in La Crosse parking ramps except park.

These two (Kiel and Mindel) tried to ram the city administrator position through at the previous council meeting by insisting on a vote that night. Thankfully, other members of city Council spoke up to seek more public input before a vote was taken. In this interview, Kiel and Mindel justify going ahead with the city administrator position because it has been talked about a long tine. They fail To recognize the delay is caused by resistance to the city administrator position by the community. This matter was referred until after the April election because we will likely have a new mayor and new members of city Council. Perhaps Mindel and Kiel Should also be replaced along with the mayor so the city administrator idea can be Quashed forever. Or should I say Squashed, since Kiel, Mindel, and Solem don’t seem to know those two words have completely different meanings.

If these two left-wingers had any knowledge of protocol, they’d know that it is highly improper to regularly accept an invitation to be interviewed on Council matters. If they were a one-time contrarian on an important issue, that’s one thing. But, to constantly opine on matters on which the Council has already taken votes shows what pot-stirrers they are. Immaturity oozes from these two as they can’t seem to accept what is already decided.
It’s time for the voters of their city districts to start searching for grown-up replacements.
