Holmen, Aquinas volleyball headed to state tournament

Holmen High School’s volleyball team is headed to the Division 1 state tournament.

The sixth-seeded Vikings beat No. 4 Verona 3-2 on Saturday (15-25, 27-25, 25-22, 19-25, 15-9) at home to advance.

Holmen (23-9) now gets the top team in state, Divine Savior Holy Angels, which is 45-1.

That game takes place at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Resch Center in Green Bay.

Meanwhile, in Division 3, top-ranked Aquinas is back at state as the No. 1 seed.

The Blugolds (27-4) face fourth-seeded Bonduel at 8 a.m. Friday. The winner places at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
