Sexual assault case against alleged Venezuelan gang member moves ahead in Crawford County
A Venezuelan man pleads not guilty to charges of sexual assault and child abuse in a Crawford County court case.
Alejandro Coronel Zarate appeared in a Prairie du Chien courtroom on Monday. Six criminal counts were filed against him in September, for allegedly attacking a woman and her daughter.
Coronel Zarate has been accused of belonging to a gang in Venezuela. The 26-year-old suspect has another court hearing in December.
Both former President Donald Trump and running mate J.D. Vance have used the Crawford County case in Wisconsin campaign speeches to criticize immigration policy and crime. Trump campaigned in Prairie shortly after the suspect’s arrest.
