Arriving at Wisconsin’s West Coast

After I told my co-workers in Texas that I had accepted my current job here in La Crosse, the first response was “you know it snows a lot there”…and I replied, yes, I am aware of that.  Which was followed by…”do you have enough winter clothes”?

I grew up in Ohio so I know how to deal with snow and ice and bumpy roads.  The first weekend I moved to the Cleveland area, the Lake Erie winds and ice that later turned to snow dropped the temperature down to 67 below zero.

Then I was told that I might not see the ground from November to March or April.  Well, after being in Texas for two and a half years, I am looking forward to seeing four seasons once again and not just brown dirt and a lot of dust.

It’s a small adjustment to make and the chance to buy real winter coats and boots.  And maybe somewhere along the bumpy road, you can give me a few more tips on how to cope with the Wisconsin winter weather.  I just hope that I won’t have to memorize the streets with giant potholes that could potentially swallow a wheel or half a car.  By the way, do you know where to get a good deal on snowshoes?

Welcome to Wisconsin and lovely, lively La Crosse. I also moved from growing up in Texas in 1985, recruited for a job. I met my wonderful wife here, and stayed put. You’ll enjoy the change of seasons, Midwest values and kindness, a low cost of living, and more. Curious as to whereabouts in Texas you were?

Mike, I was in Amarillo for 2 and a half years. Thanks for the comments.
