Jury convicts Holmen man of sexual assault, child abuse charges

A 35-year-old Holmen man was found guilty Thursday on 17 criminal counts, including allegations of sexually assaulting and physically abusing children and domestic violence.

Christopher Devenport was convicted by a La Crosse County jury, following a trial that began early this week.

Devenport originally faced 19 counts when he was charged in the case four years ago.

He had been accused of abusive activities against underage children and one adult, along with a threat to a law officer, occurring over a four-day period in the fall of 2020.

The jury took about two hours to reach the guilty verdicts.

No sentencing date has been set for Devenport. The state will conduct a presentence investigation.
